Do you think it would help if teachers were given proper time out from face to face teaching during the week to plan, make differentiated lessons to meet the need of students?

I’m not sure. Teachers are given time out during the week. I think better university education would help alongside focus sessions where differentiation has to be thought about. It’s a tricky one, but one we must deal with!

I agree with both of you. Time is definitely a factor. While we do get some out of class planning time, there is so much excessive admin to do that eats into it. However, time alone without an understanding of the variety of pupil needs and how to adapt to meet these won't make a difference.

I also think there is a place for more shared planning time and collaboration. Even as an experienced teacher, it is easy to get stuck in a rut of relying on the same differentiation strategies. I find it so valuable when I get to discuss with colleagues, broadening your own repertoire of lesson approaches and ideas.
